Hello carnivores! Ever wondered how the logistics of sports nutrition works? Well, we have too, so you’re not the only one.

We took the liberty of interviewing several staff members at Sydney Roosters, grilling them with questions about sports nutrition and dieting so you don’t have to, and now we get to share there answers with you!

If you’re a sport fanatic, into health & fitness, keen to learn more about sport dieting or simply here because you stumbled across this blog, then keep on reading because you might learn a thing or two.

  • What does a normal training day for a Roosters player look like?

A training day will involve several training sessions including field, weights and wrestle. Between sessions, players will have various meetings, treatments and meals.

  • How are diet plans managed throughout a day?

The Sydney Roosters diets are managed through tailored nutrition interventions and education that meets each players’ individual needs and goals.

High-performance meals and snacks are provided that are specific to the nutrient requirements of rugby league players and the varying training sessions they complete. Sydney Roosters players eat meals and snacks with intent, whether that be to fuel a training session, aid ongoing recovery or support overall health.

There is no “perfect” diet to suit all players, only diets that are “perfect” for each individual i.e. each player could eat slightly differently, but each way of eating could support optimal health and performance. Flexibility and personalisation in dietary approaches enables enjoyment and sustainability.

  • Regarding Jack Link’s, how much of jerky is incorporated into that diet? What makes jerky a good example of what to have in their diets?

Jack Link’s jerky is a tasty, high-protein snack that Roosters players incorporate to support ongoing muscle repair as part of their high-performance diets. Rugby league players have relatively high daily protein requirements, so having a high-protein snack like Jack Link’s jerky on hand supports the players in meeting their protein needs.

Further to this, while hitting total daily protein requirements is important, spreading this protein intake out across the day is also invaluable for recovery and training adaptation. Consuming Jack Links jerky as a snack between meals supports players in spreading their protein intake across the day.

  • What would you recommend to aspiring athletes when preparing their meal plans?

Remember that there is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to nutrition. The best diet for you is one that fuels training, supports recovery, maintains your health but one that you can stick to and still enjoy. If unsure, seek further advice from an accredited sports dietitian.

  • What are the players favourite Jack Link’s jerky flavours?

The Roosters’ favourite Jack Links flavours would be the Original and the Teriyaki

Thanks to the Roosters for taking the time to hear us! We cannot wait to hear more from them soon and we hope you took something away from this read.
